Red Tree Ministries

Mercy and Justice

The Mercy and Justice Ministry exists to extend mercy and to seek justice by ministering to those in need; comforting those in distress; helping the weak and poor; facilitating reconciliation; and redeeming our human experiences with goodness, beauty, and truth.

Interested in the Mercy and Justice Ministry?

The Gospel is where God's mercy and justice meet. As the gospel takes root in our hearts and minds, God's mercy and justice are the inevitable fruit.

We'd love to meet with you. Please contact our ministry coordinator, and we will connect you with a member of our Mercy and Justice team.

Personal Aid

It can be difficult to ask for help, but giving and receiving aid is essential to the Christian life.

If you're struggling with financial demands, social isolation, physical illness, or another hardship, please use the form below to request aid and tell us more about your situation. All your information will remain confidential unless you give us permission to share something with someone who can help.

Aid is available to people inside and outside of our church.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. We coordinate a monthly service project on the second Saturday of each month. You can learn more and sign up in our weekly newsletter.

Our congregation has diverse opinions on all sorts of issues, but we always strive to communicate the truth in love. When things get messy or controversial, we talk together, face to face, and work towards a shared understanding that honors God, his Scriptures, his people, and his creation.

We work alongside many other organizations for the good of our city and our world.

Mercy and Justice In Action

Through monthly service projects, partnerships, and prayer, we work to reflect God’s justice and mercy to those in our community who need it most.

01

Second Saturday Service Projects

Each month, we gather a small group to support a local community service through practical service. Second Saturday projects include landscaping, donation sorting, cleaning, food preparation, and simple construction.

02

Third Saturday Lunch Club

Did you know that most hospitals will not provide chemotherapy to cancer patients if they are unhoused? That is why the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County provides medical recuperation housing. Our team of dedicated volunteers prepare and serve a healthy lunch once per month for recuperating clients.

03

Safe Families for Children

Many parents lack extended friendship or family support. Our church steps up to fill those gaps with Safe Families for Children. Sometimes this looks like providing childcare for a single mother, other times it’s meeting one-on-one with an overwhelmed dad. We also host winter gear drives and other one-time projects for Safe Families.

04

Monthly Prayer Focus

Throughout the Bible, widows and orphans, sojourners, and neighbors represent opportunities for justice and mercy. Widows and orphans are those without provision and protection. Sojourners are those living in unfamiliar places. A neighbor is someone in our community with need. Each month we pray for one of these groups as a congregation and as individuals.

Bruce Baker

Pastoral Apprentice

Meet Bruce Baker

Bruce grew up on a small farm in Michigan. That land and its people taught him to love God and love God’s creatures. Bruce ran varsity track and field at Olivet College. In between practice and meets, he also managed to earn his BA in Business Administration.

Bruce met his wife, Savannah, while serving as a camp counselor in 2017. They were married in 2019. Their son, Ellis is one year old, and they have another child on the way!

Bruce earned his M.Div. from RTS Orlando while serving as children and youth ministries director at his home church. Upon completing Bruce's theological education in Orlando, The Bakers moved to Ann Arbor where Bruce joined the staff of Red Tree Presbyterian Church. The Bakers enjoys coffee, ice cream, backpacking, reading, and running.
