Our Pastoral Team

Ryan McVicar

Lead Pastor

Ryan grew up in central Illinois and became a Christian while in college at Murray State University. After college he married his best friend, Megan, who is from Hot Springs, Arkansas and a graduate of Rhodes College. Together they worked on staff with Campus Outreach to start two new college ministries in the Midwest.
Following their time in college ministry, they moved to Orlando, Florida where Ryan pursued theological training at Reformed Theological Seminary. In 2012, upon serving churches in Memphis and the Detroit area, Ryan, together with Megan and their three children (Nevin, Molly and Anna) moved to Royal Oak, MI to plant New City Presbyterian Church and to establish the Detroit Project, a ministry that exists to be a catalyst for a church planting movement throughout the Detroit region.
Ryan served as New City's Senior Pastor for ten years (2012 - 2022) and saw New City grow into a thriving, fruitful church. In 2022, the McVicar family was persuaded God was calling them to begin the privileged work of a new church start-up in Ann Arbor. The McVicar's are thrilled to be part of the Ann Arbor community and feel honored to serve the people of this great city.

Emily Petterson

Director of Music

Meet Emily Petterson

Emily is originally from Mahwah, New Jersey, and moved to Florida to attend Palm Beach Atlantic University, where she earned a degree in Communications. During her time at PBA, she was a dual-sport athlete, competing on the women’s lacrosse team and throwing javelin for the Track & Field team.

In 2017, Emily joined the worship team at Spanish River Church in Boca Raton Florida, and quickly became deeply involved in the community. Over the next eight years, she faithfully served on the team, helped establish culture, and stepped into a staff role in the Worship & Arts Department.

Emily and her husband, Alec, were married in Delray Beach in December and soon after relocated to Detroit, Michigan. They have since settled in Ann Arbor and are excited to get plugged into their new community.

Music has always played a meaningful role in Emily’s life. She especially enjoys listening to Indie, Jazz, and Country, and that love for music fuels her passion for leading others in worship. Outside of music, she loves horseback riding, exploring new places, spending time with friends, and taking every opportunity to attend concerts.

Meet Megan McVicar

Megan grew up in Hot Springs, Arkansas and became a Christian while in college at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee. Upon graduation, Megan was married to Ryan and worked on staff with Campus Outreach to start two new college ministries in the Midwest.

Following their time in college ministry, they moved to Orlando, Florida. While Ryan was studying toward his Master of Divinity degree at Reformed Theological Seminary, Megan assisted lobbyists in Tallahassee working with the Concrete industry in Florida.

In 2012, Megan, together with Ryan and their three children (Nevin, Molly and Anna) moved to Royal Oak, MI to plant New City Presbyterian Church and to establish the Detroit Project, a ministry that exists to be a catalyst for a church planting movement throughout the Detroit region.

After ten years in Royal Oak and upon seeing New City grow into a thriving, fruitful church, the McVicar family was persuaded God was calling them to begin the privileged work of a new church start-up in Ann Arbor.

Megan enjoys pouring into her children and into the lives of other women. When she's not doing that, you might find her working out at the Detroit Athletic Club, enjoying a local concert, walking her dog, or enjoying backyard games with her family in the backyard.

Monse Santiago

Campus Staff

Monse Santiago

Campus Staff

Meet Monse Santiago

Monse was born and raised in Mexico City in a very religious and syncretic family (between nominal Catholicism and New Age gnosticism). While pursuing her BA in International Relations at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), she was introduced to the gospel through RUF Mexico and gave her life to the Lord. She grew quickly in her Christian faith, served RUF as a student leader, and joined a local church. Upon graduation, she became the first RUF Mexico native intern.

After her internship years, she pursued a Master's degree in Political Science with the goal to make a career in the foreign service. It was during her graduate studies that the Lord started to change her heart about campus ministry, and called her back to RUF. From 2015-2020 Monse served as Campus Staff for RUF Mexico joyfully and faithfully, however, she still struggled with her desire to be a diplomat. Her passion for international politics did not wane, but neither did her deep love for the students she served and for the ministry of RUF.

With the encouragement of her pastors and missionary friends who recognized her ministry gifts and her academic-driven mind, she moved to the United States in 2020 (in the midst of the pandemic) to start her Seminary studies at Westminster Seminary California. After three "grinding" years, she graduated in May 2023 with double Master's degrees in Theological and Biblical Studies, and with the deep-seated conviction that the Lord was calling her, all this time, to be an ambassador for the Kingdom of God!

Monse is a "fun nerd": she enjoys reading and learning as much as making friends, traveling, dancing, and laughing!

Sarah Warner

Campus Staff

Meet Sarah Warner

Sarah Warner grew up down the road in Brighton, MI. After graduating high school as a homeschooled student, she attended (the "other school") Michigan State University. While there she earned a degree in Exercise Science and also competed as a cross country and track athlete.

It was during college that her faith really became her own and she first started thinking about doing vocational ministry. After graduating in the midst of covid, May 2020, Sarah moved to Macon, GA to take part in The Fellows Program. This is a nine-month program hosted by churches around the country where recent graduates explore how to apply their faith to the workplace. She stayed two more years in Macon as a youth intern in her church. It was at this time she felt called to continue in vocational ministry with RUF.

Sarah still loves to run and also enjoys hiking, camping, and traveling in her free time, especially with friends, family and her dog, Boone.
